New assessment offers options to ensure sustainable use

Today the Intergovernmental SciencePolicy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services IPBES released its Thematic Assessment of the Sustainable Use of Wild Species in Bonn Germany This assessment has been prepared in partnership with UNESCO one of the four main institutional United Nations partners of IPBES along with UNEP FAO and UNDP

UNESCO designates 11 new biosphere reserves

UNESCO has approved the designation of 11 new biosphere reserves in 9 countries including three countries for the first time Chad Georgia and Zambia Two existing biosphere reserves in Spain have also been extended With the new designations the World Network of Biosphere Reserves totals 738 sites in 134 countries
