UNESCO - EU Transcultura Programme extends until February 28 its Second Call for Applications for young Caribbean creative professionals

The Transcultura Programme Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity launched the Second Call for Applications to the Transcultura Scholarship Scheme in partnership with the University of West Indies Open Campus UWIOC It is a fully funded scheme supporting young artists and cultural professionals developing a career related to culture and creativity Candidates will have the opportunity to enroll in short capacitybuilding online and blended courses on Cultural and Creative Industries CCI offered by the Transcultura Regional Cultural Training Hub The Call has been extended to February 28 2022 This Call for Applications round 2 offers free access to blended courses conducted by the UWIOC for young Caribbeans within the cultural and creative sector enabling them to manage and develop their business ideas and projects The blended courses are part of the Transcultura Course Catalogue Small Business Management Effective management and Leadership Effective Business Communication Grant Proposal Writing Financial Monitoring and Evaluation Project Management Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation Finance for NonFinance Manager Sales and Marketing Management Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Brand Management The Transcultura training opportunities are designed in both facetoface and online formats primarily in physical centres in Havana but also through partner institutions like the University of the West Indies and its Open Campus However given the need to address and adapt the capacitybuilding component of the Programme there are currently implemented exclusively in an online and blended format With this initiative Transcultura aims to deepen cultural cooperation in the Caribbean and strengthen peopletopeople cooperation by empowering young women and men as agents for sustainable development through capacity building in the cultural and creative industries seeking to boost entrepreneurship and innovation foster cooperation in the arts and culture sector and create exchanges and networks to enhance complementarity and knowledge sharing Transcultura is a fouryear Programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean Do not miss this outstanding opportunity to become a Transcultura Fellow Learn more and apply here httpswwwopenuwiedutransculturascholarships

Yarima Blanco has the vital energy of a person born in eastern Cuba In 2006 she became the first woman to graduate from the University of the Arts ISA majoring in the tres a fact that has marked her life on a journey with an instrument that until then had been the exclusive domain of men in higher education Today Yarima directs and heads the septet Yarima Blanco y Son Latino where she defies no few myths every day One of those challenges is her performance with the tres a stringed instrument born in rural areas that plays a leading role in the soundtrack of peasant festivals in Cuba

UNESCO Transcultura-WOMEX Call: Here are the winners!

The jury of the event parallel to the Worldwide Music Expo offWOMEX announced that Yarima Blanco y Son Latino from Cuba the Dominican Republic and Haitian group Azueï and the Blvk H3ro Reggae Soul Band from Jamaica are the winners of the UNESCO TransculturaWOMEX Call among over a hundred competing groups Another winner as ruled by an independent jury is Cimafunk from Cuba They were selected from among 108 groups of various formats that applied from Barbados Belize Cuba the Dominican Republic Haiti Jamaica Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago The winning groups will have the opportunity to attend the next edition of WOMEX the Worldwide Music Expo under the auspices of the UNESCO Transcultura Programme Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity From 27 to 31 October these groups will be representing the Caribbean at the event which will take place in the city of Porto Portugal Thanks to this initiative 58 applications from the subregion were sponsored by this Programme implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean and funded by the European Union Sponsoring the applications of groups or soloists from the 17 Member States of the Caribbean Forum CARIFORUM the Caribbean Community CARICOM and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States OECS included in the Programme was the first step of this initiative These groups will have the opportunity to showcase their music to producers entrepreneurs agents and the general public while interacting with musicians from other regions of the world thereby paving the way to new markets and opportunities for professional growth The award includes air travel transportation during the event accommodation attendance at the fair and participation in workshops where managers and representatives of the groups will enhance their skills in key aspects of the music industry As a result the UNESCO TransculturaWOMEX initiative will contribute to the professionalisation of young artists international market exposure and the discovery of new job opportunities The UNESCO Transcultura Programme seeks to contribute to strengthen entrepreneurship and innovation in the cultural and creative industries of the Caribbean With the presence of these young music professionals at WOMEX performers of the widest ranging and vibrant Caribbean rhythms the Programme also aims to promote the understanding of shared intercultural values between the subregion and Europe thereby deepening integration With this initiative the UNESCO Transcultura Programme uses music as a source of inspiration and motivation for young artists to participate more actively in the sustainable development of their communities and countries

Photo Canva Studio en Pexels The UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean is in charge of the implementation of the UNESCO programme Transcultura Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity supported by the European Union The Programme is built on two components the first focusing on strengthening the skills and capacities of young cultural professionals and the second on enhancing opportunities through knowledge transfer and exchanges It includes the establishment of a regional Cultural Training Hub in Cuba and will create opportunities for entrepreneurship socioeconomic projects and collaboration in the cultural and creative sectors heritage and tourism within the Caribbean region and with the European Union The programme was launched at the beginning of 2020 and is expected to last until the end of 2023 A dedicated Communication and Visibility Plan has been defined in line with the Communication and Visibility Manual for EUfunded External Actions and a visual identity for the programme has been developed In the context of the implementation of the programme the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean is looking for a Communication Officer to plan and implement all activities related to internal and external outreach and visibility in line with the programmes Communication and Visibility Plan The overall purpose is raising awareness about the programme and its achievements as well as more globally on the role of the cultural and creative sectors for sustainable development and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals The position is advertised for an initial duration of four months 1 November 2021 to 28 February 2022 with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance The selected candidate will work in close cooperation with a graphic design expert Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean and the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Transcultura programme the Communication Officer shall Implement the Transcultura Programme Communication and Visibility Plan and propose modifications as appropriate Develop communication messaging and materials for different audiences governments donors partners and the press concerning either the programme as a whole or individual activities Upscale the Transcultura website and ensure its regular update through webnews and other relevant materials Implement media outreach initiatives Monitor information sources news articles academic papers infographics maps videos etc Oversee the production of audiovisual materials videos etc Oversee the work of a photographer and videographer for the Transcultura programme
